Share and Conferences

So I survived parent conferences.  I realized at about conference 15 of 32 that I was losing my mojo.  I have so much to share and not enough time to get it all in meaningfully.  What is the purpose of conferences?  Is it to compliment?  To show where improvement is needed?  To simply check in?  I just am not sure?  Anyway... I will step off my soap box, but I wish it could be easier!

Now, for my share!  Thanksgiving is really one of my favorite holidays.  It is simply about family and togetherness.  So I would like to share The Legend of the Five Kernels.  It is about how the Pilgrims struggled through their first winter.  I have my class make a book about the legend.  I then encourage them to share it at their own Thanksgiving celebration.  Parents LOVE it!  So I am sharing it with you!

I hope you enjoy it.  If you can't open it let me know.  I am not exactly sure how to embed documents.  I would love your feedback!

32?!? Yikers...no wonder you lost your mojo. I look at conferences as a time to compliment (who doesn't like to hear nice things about their child) and leave them with one or two things to work on.

Thanks for the freebie!!

What a great book! I can see why parents would love it.

I feel uncertain about some conferences too. For the ones that are doing well, sometimes there is not that much more to say, and for the ones that are doing poorly, they've heard from me already.

Thanks for the book - I had never heard of the legend before!

For my conferences, I always end up seeing only the parents who's children are well-behaved/doing well academically. The ones who really NEED to come to a parent/teacher conference never show up! So it's mostly a time for compliments, with a few suggestions and heads up on what we're going to be learning next.

Holly- I have 2 classes, AM and PM so it really isn't 32 together. If it was I may have to quit!

Marcy- I think too that when I meet with the high ones they then worry about the littlest things I tell them. It is a catch 22. I wish we could rethink conferences!

Jennifer- I am glad I can share something new with you! I hope you find it delightful!
